 Ontinyent is located around
50 miles inland from the Costa Blanca, in the Valencia region.
The town is mid-way between Valencia and Alicante. Both Alicante
and Valencia airports are 1 hour drive away.
Ontinyent is located on the western
side of the Albaida Valley, 382 metres above sea level. It is
surrounded by the Agullent-Benicadell mountains to the south
and the Serra Grossa mountain to the north. The city was originally
situated on the right-hand side of the river Clariano, but now
spreads on both sides of the river due to the rapid increase
in population over the past fifty years. Moors and Christians
fought for centuries for control of Ontinyent. Today it holds
a spectacular Moors and Christians fiesta at the end of August,
an extravagant and exciting affair. Ontinyent is a town with
everything you need - schools, doctors, hospital, banks, shops,
pharmacies, bars and restaurants. Every Monday the town is alive
with the indoor and outdoor markets.
