Murcia is a regional capital and cathedral city, standing on the banks if the river Segura. The city is described as one of the most beautiful and historic in Spain, with much Moorish influence especially in the impressive city walls. The Cathedral is the most attractive building in the city featuring two exquisitely ornate side chapels. The 96-metre tower can be seen for miles and houses 25 bells. Construction work on the cathedral started in the mid 14th century, on the site of a Moorish mosque, and lasted for another four centuries. The city and enjoys all year round sunshine and has the highest temperatures in the region.
