Igualada is a town of the province of Barcelona in Cataluna
on the left bank of the River Anoia and at the northern terminus
of the Igualada-Martorell-Barcelona railway. It is an area where
the art of tanning is a tradition which continues today, and
until recently 95% of Spains entire leather production
came from Igualada. It is also a rich agricultural and wine-producing
district. Igualada consists of an old town with narrow irregular
streets and the remains of a fortress and ramparts, and a new
town with spacious streets and fine houses. A rarity worth visiting
is the Leather Museum, the only one in Spain and one of the few
of its kind in Europe. |
