Constantina is the largest town in the heart of the
Sierra Norte de Sevilla Nature Park, 50 miles north of Seville.
Constantina,
nestling in the hills to the North of Seville, was originally
a Celtic settlement and an important Roman town. It has the charm
of a typical hilltown with the fascinating Barrio La Morería
- a maze of cobbled street, steep alleys, pretty whitewashed
houses and elegant 18th-century mansions. In the heart of Constantina
is its 14th-century Mudejar church, the Iglesia de la Encarnacion,
which has an imposing tower and Renaissance portal. You can climb
up to the ruined Moorish castle for some spectacular views. The
landscape of the Parque Natural de Sierra Norte is dominated
by extensive oak and cork oak forests and is home to many endangered
species.
