Altea is a located 5 miles
northeast of Benidorm on the Costa Blanca.
Altea is a beautiful coastal resort
on the Costa Blanca. The town was originally a fortress of the
Habsburg Empire. The old town stands on a hill above the modern
beachfront developments. It is a delightful jumble of whitewashed
houses, narrow streets and alleys, a treasure trove of shops,
craft galleries, and long flights of steps arranged around a
prominent, blue-domed church, the Virgin de Consuelo. In the
courtyard outside the church you can enjoy a coffee with views
through narrow alleyways of the newer town nestling around the
bay. In summer months a craft market is held here. At the water's
edge there is a very clean, new Promenade which stretches along
the town, down to the little port.
